Reopening of Schools – Health Benchmarks

Background: Executive Order 2020-51 (July 23, 2020)

The Executive Order allows schools to determine when they will reopen for in-person, teacher-led instruction, by considering health benchmarks developed by the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) or guidance from their county public health officials. ADHS was required to set these benchmarks by August 7, 2020, but released on August 6, 2020.

Reopening Benchmarks

ADHS has set three (3) county-specific baseline benchmarks to be considered by school districts for reopening buildings. Schools must confirm all three benchmarks with their local health department. These are not mandatory benchmarks as local public health officials may modify. ADHS will publish summary weekly benchmark data on their schools and universities dashboard.
