Rest In Peace Miguel "Mikey" Rendon

A letter from Senate President Karen Fann:

Members and Staff,

It is with incredible sadness that we announce the passing of Miguel "Mikey" Rendon.

Miguel "Mikey" Rendon, the longtime Maintenance Supervisor for the Arizona State Senate who faithfully served our Chamber for over four decades, died this morning at his home in Phoenix. He was 72 years old. Mikey began his service in the Senate in October of 1977. As the longest-serving Arizona State Senate employee ever, he faithfully served our Chamber for an incredible nearly 45 years.

He was hired as a member of the Senate's Maintenance staff in 1977 and immediately gained a reputation for his work ethic, ingenuity, creative fixes, technical know-how, and unmatched strength.

Universally adored by Senators and Staff alike, Mikey could only be described as the bedrock of the Senate. Remarkably, he served under the direction of 17 Senate Presidents.

Having been a devoted member of the Senate family for nearly 45 years, Mikey possessed an unparalleled knowledge of every aspect of the Senate and carried with him a wealth of stories about members and staff, past and present. His lifelong service to the Senate and the personal connections he made can never be replicated.

Our hearts are heavy, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family. We are awaiting details on services for Mikey and will keep you updated as soon as possible.

These are the Senate Presidents Mikey served during his tenure:
