Senator Mesnard Receives

Arizona Chamber of Commerce’s 2022 Senator of the Year Award

Phoenix, Arizona – The Arizona Chamber of Commerce honored Senator J.D. Mesnard (R-17) as their 2022 Senator of the Year. Each year, the Chamber recognizes Arizona business leaders and government officials who have gone above and beyond to improve the state's global competitiveness and advance policies that promote job growth.

As Chair of the Senate Commerce Committee, Senator Mesnard has been at the heart of numerous bills aimed at helping Arizona’s economy, including SB 1093, which reduced the property tax burden facing small businesses. He has had the same goal for as long as he has served: working to improve Arizona's business climate to create high-paying jobs.

In 2021, for example, Senator Mesnard sponsored two of the most important bills in Arizona's history:

  • SB1783 – This bill created an opportunity for small businesses to select a new "small business" tax filing structure to help reduce the tax burden on small business income.

  • SB1828 – This tax omnibus bill created a first-ever flat tax rate for Arizona while cutting taxes for everyone by the largest amount in state history.

"I am humbled and grateful to receive this award. The truth is, SB1093 brought to fruition a goal that began decades ago when folks from both parties came together to address the unfair design of our property tax system, which places a disproportionate share of the tax liability on our small businesses,” said Senator Mesnard. "Getting this done will be a boon to our job creators and ultimately benefit all Arizonans."

"We witnessed Senator Mesnard's unwavering dedication to one of our Chamber’s cornerstone business agenda items during his sponsorship and advocacy for Senate Bill 1093. Thanks to his initiative, Arizona is better positioned for equitable, sustainable and pro-growth tax reform," said Danny Seiden, the President and CEO of Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
