Senate passes key voter integrity bill

(Phoenix, State Capitol) ---- The Arizona State Senate today passed SB 1485, a bill to clean up the state's early voting list. The bill now goes to the Governor for his signature.

Bill sponsor Senator Michelle Ugenti-Rita says it's about protecting elections and keeping the list up-to-date and accurate. "Voting by mail is a big part of the election process in Arizona," said Senator Ugenti-Rita. "The people on the list are opting-in to use this option. It needs to be regularly updated to make sure the people who are on the list to receive a ballot are voters who are taking advantage of the vote-by-mail option."

If a person on the list fails to vote in the primary and general elections for two consecutive election cycles, they would be notified by the county before they are removed. If that person signs the notice and returns it, they would continue to get a mail-in ballot.
