Senator Wadsack Highlights Win for Arizona's Workforce
PHOENIX, ARIZONA— Arizona students and the state's workforce will greatly benefit from new legislation by Senator Justine Wadsack, ensuring students enrolled in noncredit workforce training are counted in a community college district's (CCD’s) state aid and expenditure limitation.
SB 1400 (community colleges; noncredit workforce training) had nearly unanimous support in the Legislature and was just signed into law today. Community colleges will now be able to better meet the needs of business and industry partners while also providing opportunities for learners of all ages to enter the workforce at a more rapid pace.
"Four-year colleges aren't for everyone. We want people to have the option to learn the skills needed to successfully enter the workforce and contribute to our already robust economy without having to attend a university environment they may not necessarily thrive in," said Senator Wadsack. "Providing different paths for education and learning is incredibly important in this day and age. I'm thrilled we can give students access to learn a trade, allowing them to start a new career or advance in their current one. Everyone from young adults, to seasoned professionals, and even our state's unsheltered population can benefit from the diverse noncredit workforce training programs existing within our community colleges. I'm confident this new law will make a positive impact on our citizens."
